After serving nearly 2 years in prison for shooting himself inside a nightclub (Quarter nightclub in Manhattan) NFL Super Bowl winner Plaxico Burress was released from Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome, New York this morning.
The former starting wide reciever for the New York Giants accidentally shot himself in the thigh with a 40 caliber handgun November 2008. Plaxico plead guilty to criminal possession of a handgun without a license in August 2009. He took a plea bargain and received a sentenced of 2 years.
Shortly after the incident Plaxico was released from the New York Giants for his involvement in a criminal act and hasn’t played football since. He had just won the Super Bowl and was considered one of the top 3 wide receivers in the NFL.
No word yet on if Plaxico will be allowed to re-enter the NFL. Mr. Burress is married with kids.
