J. Cole Explains His Original Rap Name and Why He Changed It
In case you didn’t know, J. Cole’s original rap name was Therapist. Before he became famous and signed a record deal with Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation, the young MC changed his name to J. Cole, an abbreviation of his government name Jermaine Cole.
“I learned to love it because it really did become my style and who I was,” said J. Cole in reference to his original rap name ‘Therapist.’ “But at the end of the day it always felt like just a name, like a wrestling name: Therapist.”
For the first time in his young career J. Cole explains the facts behind his name and the reason why he changed it.
