Thanks to the rising rate of sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes in the UK’s young population, combined with their dislike of going to the doctor to get treated for these diseases, British officials have spent $6.5 million creating a USB-like device that can accurately test for STDs.
A user simply has to urinate or spit on the stick, plug it in to their cell phone or computer, and voila! Their test results appear.
The plan is to sell these tech-savvy STD kits in supermarkets, clubs, and pharmacies around the UK for as little as $1.60.
We think it’s a fantastic idea and a great way to take advantage of emerging technology. However, we’re very hesitant to put anything we’ve peed on close to our cell phone or laptop — that’s opening up a whole other world of diseases… seems kind of counter-productive, right?
